Karić Brothers Award: 27th Award Ceremony at the National Theater in Belgrade

The 27th Karić Brothers Award Ceremony took place on September 21st at the magnificent National Theater in Belgrade. This Award as one of the most prestigious recognitions in the region recognizes individuals and groups of people for their outstanding contribution in the fields of culture, art, science, sports, journalism and social engagement. The guests at the awarding included many dignitaries from public life and representatives of the diplomatic corps, cultural, scientific and sports scenes from Serbia, the region and the world. The Karić family hosted and organized this important event.

This year’s laureates are:

• Ljiljana Habjanović Đurović, recognized writer whose works nurture the national and spiritual heritage of Serbia, winner of the Karić Brothers Award for Literature;


• Lordan Zafranović, prominent film director known for offering illuminating insights into important historical moments with his films, winner of the Karić Brothers Award for culture and art;


• Andrej Drobnjaković, a prodigy whose successes at world competitions contributed to the popularization of science in Serbia, winner of the Karić Brothers Award – Nikola Tesla for scientific and research work and technological innovation.


Apart from them, awards were also presented to athletes who brought joy to Serbia with their excellent results at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris:

•  Olympians: Aleksandra Perišić, Damir Mikec, Zorana Arunović, basketball and water polo National Teams of Serbia;

Paralympians: Nada Matić, Borislava Perić Ranković, Nebojša Đurić, Dragan Ristić, Željko Dimitrijević and Mitar Palukuća.

The Karić Brothers Award celebrates individual successes and encourages the promotion of common values ​​of peace, humanity and progress. Its significance extends far beyond the borders of our country as a symbol of recognition for the highest human values ​​and commitment in the fields of culture, education and sports.

During the ceremony, the audience was able to enjoy the artistic program, as well as the warm and emotional speeches of the awardees who pointed out the importance of this recognition for their further professional endeavors.


According to tradition, the awards were presented by members of the Karić family – Mr. Dragomir Karić together with Kasia and Lazar Lazarević.
Dear guests, laureates of the Karić Brothers Award, members of the Karić family, all together took the best possible impressions from this year’s Karić Brothers Award Ceremony. Each of those present was once again convinced of the importance of preserving the cultural heritage, encouraging innovation and promoting Serbia’s sporting, cultural and artistic successes.


The program started with the national anthem of the Republic of Serbia ‘Bože Pravde’ (God of Justice), in an inspiring performance by the academic choir Collegium musicum. Our presenters were the brilliant Srđan Karanović and Bojana Odavić. The opening speech was delivered by Dr. Tomislav Đokić, former dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Priština and laureate of the Karić Brothers Award for scientific and research work in 2005. He reminded the audience of the importance of the support and love of the family, that stands behind every success, pointing to the bright example of the Karić family, that has been helping those in need for more than half a century through the Karić Brothers Foundation, and for almost three decades with the Karić Brothers Award shows due respect and support for the most successful people from Serbia and the entire world.

Milica Strahinjić, soprano, Sanja Angela Kasijani, soprano, and ballerina Rajna Remović performed together a ‘Flower Duet’ from Léo Delibes’ three act opera Lakmé.

Offenbach’s Barcarolle was also performed in honor of the laureates, by the gorgeous voices of Biljana Jovanović, Milica Strahinjić, Sanja Angela Kasijani and the academic choir Collegium Musicum, conducted by Dragana Jovanović and accompanied by the ballet miniature Eternal Light performed by Rajna Remović.

The Karić Brothers Award is made up of people, its laureates, who have been creating history before our eyes for three decades. This year, the starry sky of the most successful laureates is richer with new people that bring new weight and quality to this prestigious recognition. Being in the company of the best is a great obligation and responsibility, which the laureates of the Karić Brothers Award carry with ease and satisfaction, sending a clear message to everyone by their example that with a lot of work, commitment and sacrifice, it is possible to achieve the highest successes, and thus valuable recognition and awards.
