Karić Brothers Foundation at the Ceremony Marking the 200th Anniversary of Matica Srpska

A ceremonial academy marking 200 years of Matica Srpska, the oldest and most prominent Serbian cultural, literary, and scientific institution, was held at the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad. The event gathered a distinguished audience from public, cultural, and social life.

Among the invited guests were representatives of the Karić Brothers Foundation, whose presence contributed to the importance of the occasion. Milanka Karić, Honorary President of the Foundation, Ljubica Vukotić, Director of the Foundation, and Tihomir Simić, representing the BK Group, paid tribute to Matica Srpska and its lasting place in Serbian history and culture.

On this occasion, Milanka Karić, on behalf of her family and the Karić Brothers Foundation, presented a golden icon of the Most Holy Mother of God to Dragan Stanić, President of Matica Srpska. The gesture expressed a continued dedication to preserving cultural heritage and served as a reminder of the importance of tradition and identity.

The ceremony was also attended by His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije, representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and numerous figures from the country’s cultural and public life.

In their addresses, speakers reflected on the role of Matica Srpska through time, as an institution that has preserved cultural heritage while shaping a sense of shared identity. Patriarch Porfirije spoke about its long-standing connection with the Serbian Orthodox Church, while Dragan Stanić noted that Matica Srpska remains a lasting and shared need of the Serbian people.

The event offered a moment to look back on the rich legacy of Matica Srpska and to acknowledge its continued contribution to culture, literature, and science.

In the book of impressions, Milanka Karić, Honorary President of the Karić Brothers Foundation, wrote:

“It is a great honor for us to be here today, marking 200 years of Matica Srpska.
Since its founding in 1826, Matica Srpska has stood as a place of continuity in culture, education, and science, carrying through generations a sense of identity, spirituality, and care for the community.
Two centuries of Matica Srpska, nearly fifty years of the Karić Brothers Foundation, and twenty-five years of our cooperation represent, for us, both honor and responsibility.
We wish you a joyful and blessed anniversary.”
