HOMAGE TO DEJAN MEDAKOVIĆ – THE BATTLE OF KOSOVO IN PAINTING
THE HONEY-MAKING MEDAKOVIĆ: THE PARTICIPATION OF ART, MUSIC, AND WORDS
On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, a solemn event was held in the Hall of the BK University in New Belgrade, dedicated to one of the most significant Serbian intellectuals and artists, Academician Dejan Medaković. The event gathered numerous art, culture, and science enthusiasts who, through speeches, musical performances, and exhibitions, reflected on the great work and significance of this scholar and artist.

”It is both a great honor and joy to greet you today on behalf of the Brothers Karić Foundation, at this solemn event dedicated to one of the great figures of Serbian culture – Academician Dejan Medaković. He was not only a distinguished art historian, professor, academician, and rector of the University of Belgrade, but also a witness of his time and a guardian of the national soul, a man who preserved the memory, identity, and spiritual vertical of our people in his works.”
The Brothers Karić Foundation had, as early as 1999, awarded the ”Brothers Karić Prize” to Dejan Medaković for his exceptional contribution to scientific and research work. This award was not only a recognition of one individual but also a recognition of culture as the foundation of our existence. This event is just one of the many activities organized by the Brothers Karić Foundation to preserve and transmit spiritual and cultural heritage to future generations.

Marina Milić Radović, a pianist and founder of the ”Laza Kostić” Foundation in London, performed her unique fusion of music and words, titled ”Honey-Making Medaković,” which was dedicated as a token of gratitude to all those who selflessly contributed to Serbian culture. In her performance, she emphasized:
”This performance is my great THANK YOU to the Karić brothers, whose bank was the first donor to my Foundation in London in 1991.”

This event was also a sign of deep gratitude to Dejan Medaković, whose work and vision left an indelible mark on Serbian culture and science. The attendees had the opportunity to become familiar with the richness of his work, which includes the monasteries of Fruška Gora, the Battle of Kosovo, and a profound connection to tradition and faith.

Zoran Kolundžija from the Prometej Publishing House and Aleksa (Pavle) Medaković also contributed to the success of the program. The event was further honored by the presence of the Laza Ambassadors from Sremski Karlovci.

In his address, the representative of the Brothers Karić Foundation emphasized:
”In the works of Dejan Medaković, we recognize this mission – a persistent and strong fight to preserve that which makes us a nation: the monasteries of Fruška Gora, the visual depictions of the Battle of Kosovo, a deep connection with tradition, faith, and culture. Medaković taught us that culture is not an ornament, but the foundation. That word, like image, is part of our collective memory. And that it is our duty – as individuals, but also as a community – to preserve, nurture, and pass on that memory.”

The Brothers Karić Foundation continues its activities focused on supporting art, education, science, and culture, with the goal of preserving and passing on the heritage that defines us as a people.
